This book is a complete immersion in the privileged life of the Sinclair Family, who spend Summer on their private island. Cadence, the now 18 year old eldest granddaughter and heiress to the fortunes of the family, has suffered an accident she cannot remember. The book is a slow reveal of the mystery surrounding this accident, as Cadence slowly recovers her memory. It is told with a teenage eye for the ugly truth, flawed by youthful inexperience but sharp on observation, and this is part of the charm.
What an amazing sense of voice! This is my favourite thing about ‘We Were Liars’. I couldn’t put it down until I finished – when I finally looked up it was 1am . It’s been a while since that happened.
You can read it, your teenagers can read it – it’s a winner.
